The politico-cultural tour of the European Women's Circle to the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg centered around the history of the German Hanseatic League and its far-reaching impact on the development of Hanseatic cities.

The international maritime trade of Hamburg, which had already begun in the 12th century with a focus on England, having had a considerable share in the economic well-being of its inhabitants over the centuries, made the city particularly suffer from the Napoleonic continental blockade and the naval blockades of the first and second world war. In this spirit, the upcoming "Brexit" and its impact on the city of Hamburg was a topic during the political conversation with Michael Westenberger, MdHB. He is the expert for Europe and the economy in Hamburg's parliament and reported among other things on the important relations with other Baltic Sea states and about Hamburg's worldwide trade. A very interesting tour for the group rounded off the visit to Hamburg's City Hall.

The European Women's Circle organized a highly informative tour on the subject of trade, the Hanseatic League, and Hamburg in the well-known International Maritime Museum, followed by a round trip of the port, where the participants witnessed the departure of one of the largest container ships in the port.

The cultural program with a visit to the five main churches of Hamburg including St. Michael's Church, the city's landmark, and the Kunsthalle Hamburg gave the participants a historical as well as a current view of the development of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, Germany's second largest city.

The participants enjoyed stimulating discussions about the travel experiences during a typical Hamburg dinner with excellent fish specialties.
